The highly-anticipated auto show of the country, the Philippine International Motor Show, is set to make a return in its full glory this week. The grand event will not only centre stage the new and upcoming car models, but also the future technologies that are on the brink of becoming mainstream. Also, the automakers are likely to put up some exclusive deals at the show.

While there are still two days left for the suspense to reveal, here we have come up with a list of the top 5 cars expected to make their debut at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show.

Back in August, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) Managing Director Cecil Capacete, confirmed that the company will reveal the Ioniq 5 before the year ends. This can be taken as a hint that the electric SUV will be previewed at the PIMS 2022. The EV’s modern aesthetic appeal and innovative technologies can captivate visitors at the Hyundai booth.

Based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered in two configurations in the global market - a single electric motor tied with a 58 kWh battery pack and two electric motors mated to a 72.6 kWh battery. The former delivers a maximum power output of 170 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm while the latter is good for making 305 PS and 605 Nm. Shifting duties on both versions are handled by a single-speed transmission.

Among the key highlights of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are the distinctive V-shape front bumper, pixel-inspired squared-off LED headlights, pixelated tail lights, pop-out door handles, aero-optimised 20-inch wheels, a solar roof, eco-friendly interior trims, dual 12-inch screens, dual-zone air conditioning, wireless charger, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support and several advanced driver-assistance systems.

Another hi-tech EV set to be staged is none other than the Ioniq 5 sister model, the Kia EV6. Kia Philippines has recently posted the silhouette of the EV6 on its Facebook page with a caption that reads “Get ready to be inspired. Philippine International Motor Show September 15-18, World Trade Centre.

The Kia EV6 has gained much acclaim in the global market for its styling and advanced digitalisation. Key highlights include a digital ‘Tiger Face’ with dual LED projector headlights, aerodynamic silhouette, sporty roofline, ducktail-esque full-width LED tail lamps, auto flush door handles, dual 12.3-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. And a dual-zone climate control system.

Under its shiny skin lies a twin-motor drivetrain setup generating 325 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 605 Nm. The motors are fueled by a 77.4 kWh battery pack offering a WLTP-claimed range of 506 km. The single motor electric setup is also on offer in selected markets.

The newly launched Nissan Kicks e-Power will also be on display at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show. The SUV is offered in three trims in the local market - e-Power VL, e-Power VE, and e-Power EL, all are powered by a combination of 1.2-litre DOHC 12-valve, three-cylinder engine charging the battery and an electric motor, which produces 136 PS of maximum power and 280 Nm of peak torque.

According to UNR101 fuel efficiency testing, the Nissan Kicks e-Power mileage ranges somewhere between 22 kmpl to 25 kmpl, depending on the driving pattern and traffic conditions.

Included in the Kicks e-Power equipment kit are the Nissan Intelligent Mobility pack, 7.0-inch colour TFT display metre, 8.0-inch advanced touchscreen display Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity; keyless entry and more.

Honda Cars Philippines will take the upcoming auto show as an opportunity to showcase the sporty iteration of the popular HR-V, called the HR-V RS. Compared to the standard model, the spruced-up HR-V will have a unique exterior kit, including a chrome chequered grille, gloss black body cladding, chrome lower trim, red accents, sporty interior trims and advanced tech features.

Alongside the HR-V RS, the accessorised City 1.5 CVT and Civic RS Turbo CVT Honda Sensing models will also be on display at the said event.

On top of all, the automaker will also preview an all-new Honda model during the motor show, which is likely to be the next-gen Honda BR-V.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation will reintroduce its Ralliart brand in the country at the motor show. The brand’s social media post confirming the same hints at the arrival of two Mitsubishi Ralliart vehicles - Montero Sport and Strada. The Ralliart iteration of the models recently made their debut in Thailand where these are sold as the Pajero Sport and Triton, respectively.

While taking reference from the neighbouring market, we can expect that the upcoming Ralliart vehicles will feature gloss black finishing on the front grille, fender arch moulding, roof, tailgate spoiler, and shark fin antenna along with special decals and blackened wheels. Inside, the Ralliart-specific bits may include red accents, Ralliart-branded floor mats and more.
